The data gathering is a major task in wireless sensor networks, so designing a suitable protocol of data gathering is the premier matter. However, the energy resources, communication capabilities, computers, and storage capacity are badly limited in the node of wireless sensor network. Hence, data gathering protocol must take into account energy efficiency. In addition, we design different protocols according to the variable application, under the limited resources, how to design a high efficiency, real-time data gathering protocol is an urgent question. This paper discusses mobile sink-based data gathering protocol for wireless sensor network. When moving to a new location, sink gathers the neighbor nodes’ data. Upon data transfer is completed, sink moves to new position. Then based on clustering, we proposed a clustering-based data gathering protocol for wireless sensor network. Cluster head takes data integration, reduce redundant data transmission, which balanced the energy consumption of whole network, effectively extend the lifetime of network. Mobile sink moves based on the Random Walk Mobility Model. After Initializing, the mobile sink moves randomly and sends hello messages to neighbor nodes that attach to coordinate of cluster head within an acknowledgement. When receiving this acknowledgement, sink move to coordinate of this cluster head.
