Wireless sensor network(WSN)is one of the three key supporting technologies of Internet of Things, and it will be an important technique means to change the human life in the future.WSN is often deployed in abominable field environment or unattended area. The energy of wireless sensor nodes is usually supplied by battery, which is difficult to re-fill in most cases. Therefore, design of efficient network protocols is an important issue for achieving improved overall network lifetime for a WSN.In this thesis, the design and simulation of WSN clustering scheme is studied. The main design objective is to prolong the network lifetime of a WSN and enhance the performance of such networks. In the networks under study in this thesis, sensor nodes are static, while sink node(s)are mobile, which can be mounted on mobile people, and robots or unmanned aircrafts, etc. In order to improve the efficient energy of WSN node, new protocol design and extensive simulations are carried out.Through in-depth analysis of the characteristics of the classical Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy(called LEACH)protocol, this thesis proposes a new clustering routing protocol(called M-LEACH),which considers dynamic network partitioning based on fresh location of mobile sink(s)and also the residual energy of sensor nodes into the election of cluster heads. In this protocol, the number of cluster heads is controlled and their distribution in wireless sensor networks is also balanced by adaptively partitioning the network. At the same time,we also consider the residual energy of the nodes in the cluster head election to balance energy consumption in the network. The protocol effectively solves the problem that uneven distribution of cluster heads temporally and spatially, and also the unequal energy consumption of nodes. We use the NS2 simulation platform for performance evaluation. The results show that our new protocol can significantly improve the network lifetime performance as compared with LEACH.
