As technology advances, the products are increasingly complex and becomemore user-friendly. The requirement of software and hardware interaction riseceaselessly. It is difficult for designers, whether individually or in a team, to spotevery mistake or flaw in a complicated piece of work. The traditional quality testingmethods can only test products quality from the physical point of view, so the testcould not be better indicators of human-computer interaction. The common method of testing the usability of products based on user-centeredusability testing and peer review. These two methods can be more humane to testproduct usability, which from a better man-machine angle to consider the product. The Peer Review is composed by experts of the technical team, which based onpersonal experience to find the product defects. And user-centered usability testingtry to measure a human-made product’s capacity to meet the usability of standard bytesting users experience to use the product.I have tried to research two major usability testing methods and analysis thesimilarities and differences of User-centered Usability Testing and Peer Review.According to the statistical data show that: Peer Review is more flexible fordesigners and companies and which can bring greater returns. Then I prove theconclusion by the project data when I internship in HP. The entire development ofthe printer costs as much as six months, which related to the MD, ID, HFE, UI, FWand other development department. Professional peer review activities focuses onthe defects of the printer from the BB, LP to MP stages of the development process, and we also build product defects database. while we led user-centric usabilitytesting in the latter part of the product. After the analysis of large data to prove thetheory mentioned earlier. Finally, we found the method had some shortage. So thearticle described the principle of Peer Review in the product development process. And this will help designers to better use the technique, improve product quality andevaluate designer himself.
