With the development of communication technology, the rich-media communications are in aperiod of explosive growth, as a variety of different multimedia terminals become more and morepopular. An integrated communication system--AMS is proposed by ITU-T SG16, which isdesigned for the multi-terminals service. But the research of AMS is still at the stage of theoreticalstudy without a practicable solution and a set of available prototype system. These defects seriouslyaffect the development of theoretical research and hinder the commercialization process of AMS.Therefore, the establishment of a practical prototype system becomes the key problem in theresearch of AMS.According to the trend of the multimedia communication development, the SIP-based AMSsolution is proposed by this paper. This solution combines the AMS with SIP features, based on theanalysis of the significance of the AMS in rich media communication. The user container moduleand multimedia terminal module are designed by using SIP-based protocol. After that thecombination of applications and mobility management solution are proposed. By deploying theSIP-based AMS prototype system architecture, the workflow for multimedia service is designed, and finally the proposed solution is verified.By deploying the OpenIMSCore and the extension of the SIP protocol, the SIP-based AMSprototype system platform is set up. Protocol packets are captured and analysed during the processof the service realization, which verified the validity of the SIP protocol extensions. In system test, two service scenarios, as end-to-end multimedia communication and online streaming service arerealized on the the prototype system, which verify the availability of the AMS prototype system.
