To provide more kinds of services and drive the combination of mobile network and fixed network, we are looking for a new network Structure. So 3GPP designed the IP Multimedia Subsystem(IMS) in Release 5 to satisfy the need, which is considered as the most suitable solution to Next Generation Network. As we all known, the most remarkable feture of 3G is the variable and enhancive multimedia applications. IMS provides universal platform for many kinds of services coexisting.In 3G era, the background and meaning of research on this title is introduced first in this paper, along with the network architecture and the services structure of IMS. IMS, which has the capabilities of highly abstracting underlying network and shielding its complexities, can separate the control of network from the bearer, as well as the service from the control. So the third-party service providers can design more multimedia services of individuality and operator can make the full services better.Then the paper gives an in-depth investigation into SIP and SDP, including their architecture and message fomat. PoC service, of which session types and system architecture are represent, is one of main services in 3G era. The implementation of PoC based on IMS domain is compared from the one based on PS domain. And the compare illustrates that IMS is the best choice of a large-scale business networking.In the last chapter, a simulation of one-one PoC service is worked based on the SDS. The signalling flow of the one-one PoC service is analysed, and the use case besides the program is represented.
