The embedded system has widely influenced people’s life after30years of development. Andthe applications of embedded system are changing the way of people’s life and improving the levelof industrial production. With the development of computer technology and network technology, thetrend of computer, communications and consumption electronics’ integration has becomeincreasingly evident. Next generation of embedded system and embedded Internet, including theInternet of Things will closely contact with cloud computing and embedded terminal devices. Theapplications of new technologies for embedded products will be more sensitive to the price, powerconsumption, performance and connectivity of embedded product. The development of embeddedsystem is facing the challenge of a series of new technologies in application layer, communicationlayer, system software layer, hardware architecture layer and I/O layer. The new generation ATOMprocessors of Intel precisely meet this demand, which combine the architecture of X86, adopt thedepth energy-saving technology. Compared with the ARM series, it has great advantages inapplication, software resources and operating performance.From the view of computer application,this thesis studies on applications of the open platformbased on ATOM processor both in hardware and software. In the applications of hardware,thisthesis presents the research on the design of open platform based on the Intel ATOM processor,including high-reliability hardware design technology to meet the requirements of the digital,multimedia, network communications applications, and extensible I/O technology to meet the openperformance. In the applications of Software, this thesis mainly gives a design scheme of the visualremote development environment based on ATOM platform. As X86embedded application,thisplatform with open hardware and software can provide the the environment for design verification,test and secondary development.It also can be used as the equipment of training and experiment forcollege courses such as computer systems, embedded systems and operating systems to speed upthe promotion of the X86embedded technology and applications.
