China has been actively participating at the world stage during recent years。Culture,as a dynamic aspect of national image, is playing an essential role in presenting China tothe world. Chinese cultural elements such]as Kung Fu and Confucianism have beenwidely acknowledged by the west through the promotion of chinese movies andconfucius instututes.people get to know about china via these cultural elements andmutual understanding is built by means of intercultural communication.However,it is apity to find out that in the field of chinese cities, it has not been widely acknowledged bythe west, and there is no enough chance for the west audience to appreciate the beauty ofChinese cities, even, in some west audiences’ eyes, Chinese cities still remain the look inthe old-time Chinese movies, such as <Red Sorghum>, these recognitions of Chinesecities are prejudiced.Take Shanghai as an example, in order to show the charm of Shanghai, which is themost prosperous city in China and let more foreign friends know Shanghai, Shanghai hasbeen experienced a revolution of the way of intercultural communication. So, how tobroadcast Shanghai in the most appropriate way? Whether or not the way of broadcastingshanghai can be improved? How to define the broadcasting of Chinese cities in the bigpicture of intercultural communication? Who will be responsible for the consequence ofthis revolution? This thesis will focus on these questions above.This thesis will use case study as the main methodology to conduct a qualitativeresearch, also, questionnaire and SPSS analysis will be used to provide quantitativesupport. Questionnaires had been designed to conduct this study and200subjects hadbeen chosen as interviewees, were asked questions about the intercultural communicationof Shanghai.
