Wireless multimedia sensor networks (MWSN) are wireless sensor networks(WSN) expected to support multimedia services such as delivery of images andaudio/video streams. Compared to traditional wireless sensor networks (WSN), this is anew attempt. Based on in-depth researches on reliablyrouting protocol and multimediainformation processing, WMSN is gradually moving towards engineering applicationfields.Distributed video coding (DVC) is a new paradigm for video compression inopposition over the existing video coding standards, with which most calculationsperformed by the encoding side are transferred to the decoding side. For applying thisencoding method to WMSN video nodes, it is currently limited to theoretical analysis. This paperattempts to implement distributed video coding onARM9platform. Based onproperties of TQ2440development board, Firstly, a DCT algorithm aiming at tradespace for time is realized. The algorithm depends on DCT coefficient table mappingsand doesn’t need to use multipliers. Secondly, quantification and bit-plane extraction areperformed on the transform coefficients of DCT. Lastly, an interleaver in Turbo codesfor distributed video coding is realized, which does interleaving operations respectivelyin row and column directions using different S-random interleavers after blockinterleaving. Experiment results show that the implementation scheme reducescomputational complexity and delay caused by interleaving to some extent with Limitedmemory consumption. Consequently, realizing WZ frame processing oftransform-domain Wyner-Ziv encoder on TQ2440development board is feasible.
