With the development of electronic system toward high-speed, high-density, lowvoltage and high current, power integrity issues become increasingly prominent. PowerDistribution Network (PDN) not only acts as the provider of power, but also as thelow-noise return path of the high-speed signal. It can supply the necessary isolation forthe different chips which can ensure the electromagnetic integrity. Therefore, whetherthe power distribution network is reasonable or not plays a critical role in electronicsystem design. In this paper, by deeply understanding and researching to industry’s designmethods on power distribution network, we finally adopt the method of improvedtarget impedance to finish the design process, of which the value is based on dynamiccurrent of the load. This article gives a detailed analysis on it. Acquired the targetimpedance, we apply the fast algorithm of decoupling capacitor selection based on selfresonant frequency of cpacitors to determine the mount and capacitance of capacitors. At last we develop the graph user interface (GUI) based on MATLAB to realizeautomation of PDN design. The method in this paper is more consistent with the actual work of chip. Thesimulation results also show that impedance curve obtained by use of our algorithm areflat and close to target impedance, which can reduce the PDN design cost as much aspossible.
