Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) has already been an irreplaceable networkingin the temporary occasions such as military communications, outdoor meeting,emergency communications. MANET has lots of characteristics such as self-organizing,having no center, limited resource which are big challenges for the research on thesecurity mechanism. However, the existing solutions have some problems. Withcomplex certificate management, high computation and storage overhead, PKI-basedkey management is not suitable for MANET which is real time and low bandwidth.Identity-based key management has the key escrow problem. Once PKG is not credible,the system will collapse. The existing certificateless-based key management schemesemploy bilinear maps on elliptic curves. The less use in practice of bilinear maps is aproblem for existing cryptosystem.After a deep research of the strengths and weaknesses of the certificateless publickey in MANET, we propose an RSA-based distributed certificateless public keycryptography (CL-PKC) scheme. The scheme has both the advantages of CL-PKC andbetter compatibility with existing cryptosystems with the use of the most mature andperfect RSA algorithm.The main contributions of this paper include:1. We research and discuss CL-PKC and certificateless key management based onbilinear maps on elliptic curves in MANET.2. We analyze the RSA-based CL-PKC, propose a scheme suitable for MANETbased on RSA-based CL-PKC. Due to the extensive deployment of RSA, thisscheme is better off in compatibility with existing cryptosystems compared toCL-PKC based on bilinear maps.
