The balance power amplifier is discussed in detail in this paper, and a30dBmbalance power amplifier at K/Ka-band is fabricated.Considering our project characteristics, a design scheme of two stagesamplification and two-way MMIC chips combination is adopted in this thesis. TheHMC341is used in the driver stage amplifier and the HMC863is used in the amplifierstage. The main task of this paper is the design of the power dividing/combiningnetwork, and uses CAD to compare many power dividers and couplers, focusing on theimproved Wilkinson divider, ring hybrid and three branch-lines coupler based on DGS.Then the three kinds of power dividing/combining networks mentioned above are madesimulated by the Ansoft Designer software. Ultimately, the three branch-lines couplerbased on DGS is choosed as the power dividing/combining network unit. Thesimulation results shows that the work frequency band is24GHz~29.5GHz, the outputpower is30dBm, the return loss is more than25.5dB, the gain flatness is about1dB, theinsertion loss is below1dB, the VWSR is below1.09, and the power combiningefficiency reanches above80%, all the specifications can satisfied with the expectedrequirements, These results verified the feasibility and reliability of the designconception.
