Channel coding is essential to modern communication systems. The focus of thisdissertation is to design and implement tail-biting converlutional codes (TBCC) andReed-Solomon (RS) codecs in IEEE802.16e.The design and implementation of TBCC is presented. Firstly, the coding and6dedcoding algorithms including maximum likelihood decoding algorithm are described,on the basis of which the bidirectional expended circle viterbi algorithm is selected andsimulated by MATLAB. Finally, the decoder based on this algorithm is designed andtested on the hardware platform, and the results show that the decoder achieves theperformance expected. The design and implementation of RS codes is provided. Firstly, the principle ofBerlekamp-Massey decoding algorithm is described, which is a common engineeringmethod to decode RS codes. Then the design of RS universal decoder is discussed indetail. On the basis of discussion, a multi-code-rate RS decoder is designed. Thedecoder implemented in this dissertation can decode all6RS codes in IEEE802.16ewith less hardware resource consumption and acceptable performance cost, and meetthe requirements of flexible code rate and variable burst length in communicationsystem.
