Process control and management is a crucial tache to ensure the productquality.Statistical process control technology,whose app-lications has exceeded theindustrial field, is a scientific management method of ensuring preventive principleas well as carrying out the process control. How to measure the software process met-rics has already been one of the hot topics on computer softwre engineering research.So the software process metrics based on statistical process control technology is agood question worthy of probing into.The target of this paper is to apply the statistical process control technology tothe software process metrics. To this end, the paper first in-depth study of softwareprocess measurement theory, and then study the Capability Maturity Model CMM andthe Measurement Model GQM, in-depth comprehensive study of the statisticalprocess control technology in the Shewhart control chart, determine the criteria andprocess limits the ability to define and control the method of calculation, and someexamples of the control chart in the software development process measurement ofthe stability, progress bias, review and inspection process, defect density, and severalother aspects of the application, determine the process stability and capability index,Finally, the paper illustrates the process for detecting small shifts in volatilityCUSUM control chart and EWMA control chart usage, then they were compared withthe traditional control chart.The results of our experiments show that the metrics of software defect has acer-tain effect on ensuring the software process quality, and applying the statisticsproce-ss control technology to the defect metrics is feasible and effective.As to improving software process and software qualities, what this paper hasdone dealswith only one aspect. Thus, there are still a lot of things to be researchedin the future and the application of the statistics process control technology should beenlarged to ensure software process quality more effectively.
