With the accelerated process of urbanization, street lighting has become an important symbol of the urban landscape and the city’s image. Therefore, modern society has increasingly high requirements for the management and maintenance of street lighting. The lighting management department’s idea of emphasising on construction and contempting management is common. Poor management technology and the single way of management lead the daily management and maintenance work to passive. So there is an urgent need to introduce workflow modeling and analysis technique into the daily work of the lighting management department. It can lay the foundation for the management of process optimization, rational resource allocation and process automation through planning and designing the business process efficiently. This paper first describes the development status of street lighting management and workflow technology in the domestic. Then it introduces the theoretical system of lighting management and the core concepts of workflow technology, proposing the thought that the city lighting management is based on Petri Net. By reviewing the basis of existing technical, it gives the proper architecture model of city lighting management service platform and designs the main modules. By straightening out the lighting management daily business process, this paper creates the model of business process based on the Petri Net and completes the process model of street lighting management. Finally I make a reasonable validation of the model based on analysis of the matrix equation by using Petri net analysis technique. It proves that the method is feasible. The research of city lighting management process based on Petri Net is systematical, innovative and applicable. It provides a theoretical basis and decision support for the system design and process analysis of urban lighting work flow management.
