The audio source system in radio transmitting station is the key to the transmitter front-end facilities. It is related to the quality of audio transmission and processing, and directly affects the reception quality of the program. The reliability, stability and fast switching ability of the audio source system determine the safety level of radio transmitting station. It is an important node for safely broadcasting.This paper mainly studies how to use Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA: Spartan3A-DSP) and Digital Processing Chip (DSP:ADSP21364) as processing platform to implement the function of multi-channel audio monitoring and switching. The functions of audio monitoring system include audio amplitude monitoring, spectrum analysis, automatic switching and audio content comparison. The audio content and processed results are able to transmit over Ethernet for remote monitoring.Specifically addressed in this paper are the system hardware design scheme, hardware circuits, and a detailed description of the FPGA-based audio collection and transmission as well as external communication interfaces. We also describe the software design on the DSP chip. Finally, the test results of the system as well as typical applications in broadcast station are given.FPGA is not only the logic control center of the system, but also takes part in audio processing, such as audio amplitude calculation, the spectrum analysis. To enhance the reliability of control systems, we build an embedded processing system bases on Xilinx MicroBlaze soft core processor to coordinate the work of the various modules. DSP takes the role of audio processor to implement the audio content comparison algorithm.The audio monitoring system designed in this paper, achieves real-time monitoring and intelligent switching of the audio source system. It is of full-featured, high reliability and real time characteristics, and thus can greatly improve the safety of radio programs. It can be widely used in transmitter monitoring systems in broadcast station.
