Predictive control has a flexible constraint processing ability and good controlperformance, which has been successfully applied in process industry area forthree decades. At present, the application of predictive control mainly dependson industrial computers and professional control software, which is expensive,and difficult to configure. Professional engineers need to implement andmaintain the application suits.With the development of society, resource-saving and environment-friendlydirection becomes the industry-developing trend. How to apply predictivecontrol method to industrial field equipment with resource and environmentindex into performance optimization object is attracting more and moreattention. Thus in order to promote the development of predictive controlapplication, low cost predictive controller that is suitable for low capabilitycalculation equipment has become the current focus. Researches show thatpredictive control has been realized utilizing Field-Programmable Gate Array(FPGA) development board and relative applications have been achieved inlab. Hence, it is necessary for further research on design low-cost FPGAbased industrial predictive controller aiming at applying those achievements.This paper focuses on design and application of FPGA based industrialpredictive controller including the following aspects: 1) FPGA based industrial predictive controller hardware design. Consideringindustry solution standard and FPGA characteristics, FPGA based industrialpredictive controller hardware design consists of FPGA function region, clockregion, configuration region, AI/AO/DI/DO region, communication region,storage region, power region and controller shell.2) FPGA based industrial predictive controller software design. Aiming atproviding stable model predictive control software application andconfiguration environment, FPGA based industrial predictive controllersoftware design consists of drivers programming, system configuration andpredictive control algorithm realization.3) Applications of FPGA based industrial predictive controller. After settingup experiment environment, industrial predictive controller is used incirculated fluidized bed boiler (CFBB) coal-saving optimization control andplastic injection molding machine pressure control. The circulating fluidizedbed boiler control, the combination of economic indicators and DMCobjective function inspired by the real time optimization thought has obtainedgood results of coal saving. In the injection molding machine pressure control,according to the application environment on the predictive controller toadjustment and optimization has better control effect than the traditionalcontrol.
