Vehicular Ad hoc Network (VANET) is an emerging new technology in recent yearswith a very broad application prospects. It can be applied to solve the traffic safety andcongestion problems. As an important part of intelligent transportation systems, it providescommunication between the vehicles with vehicles and the nearby roadside infrastructure. In order to ensure the stability of the connection between the vehicles, we need a reliablerouting protocol. As VANET’s topology changes every time, and the vehicles’ movementsis different from the mobile node in Mobile Ad hoc Network, the current routing protocolis not satisfactory. This thesis proposes a new routing protocol, in order to achievebetter routing performance, to ensure the reliability of communication between thevehicles. This thesis gives a brief introduction on technical standards for Vehicle Ad hocNetwork and routing protocols classifications, then it explains the parameters such asnodes’ transmission range, Total Weight of the Route, Link Survival Time, given thedirection for the solution to improve quality of service. In this paper, we focus on Ad hocOn-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocols. The movements of the vehicleinformation (speed, acceleration, direction of movement, etc.) are added to a routediscovery process. Various parameters are defined as Total Weight of the Route, LinkSurvival Time. With the map database to build a real traffic scenario, we can simulatevehicles driving on urban roads. This thesis is based on the AODV Routing Protocol in VANET, vehicles’ movementsare added to the route discovery process. The proposed routing protocol called AODV-VANET in the packet processing and routing is described in detail. Through theintroduction of the routing parameters of Total Weight of the Route, Link Survival Time, itincreases the route request and route reply packet processing and the modification of theprotocol routing table based on the AODV protocol. At the same time, retrieving andupdating the VANET data function have added to the agreement, in order to achieve abetter routing performance. Simulation based on real city traffic scenarios. We comparerouting load, amount of data transfer, packet loss rate data indicators the two protocols. The results show that AODV-of VANET in the original agreement, can effectively reducethe routing overhead, and can maintain a more stable connection to achieve performanceimprovements, verify the reliability of the AODV-VANET in routing protocols.
