Infrared thermal imaging technology has made tremendous development in recent years, and has been widely used in various fields and with a huge market. Infrared detector andinfrared image processing system are the key components of infrared thermal imagingtechnology. Because of infrared detectors with larger array and higher frame rate in recentyears,it is necessary for infrared image processing system to process more data more quickly. However, current FPGA+DSP system architecture can not meet this new request. Therefore,in order to meet this request, this thesis designs the infrared image processingsystem based on FPGA from improving image quality and data processing capabilities.Compared with FPGA+DSP system architecture, FPGA is the core image processor in thedesign. And because pipelining approach can be implemented in FPGA, the system’s dataprocessing capabilities can be significantly improved.According to above design idea, this thesis implements the FPGA system architecturedesign based on NIOS soft-core and Avalon bus. The system and data flow can be coordinatedand controlled effectively and easily. And this thesis also implements two-point multi-sectionnon-uniformity correction method and replacement by the average of the neighbor four pixelmethod by verilog. In the system performance test, for1280×1024resolution25Hz frame rate infrared image, the system successfully processed the data of the infrared image whose resolution is1280×1024and frame rate is25Hz. Compared with the average level of NETD of infrared imageprocessing system is100mK, the NETD of the system designed in this thesis is just56.6mK.And Compared with the average level of is RNU of infrared image processing system is1%,the NETD of the system designed in this thesis is just0.24%. The experiment results indicate theeffectiveness of algorithms and advancement of this system.
