With the development of globalization, market competition also will be graduallyincreased. Enterprises are more and more urgent to increase productivity, reduce productioncosts. In industrial production, there is a lot of production waste, including boringaccumulation, equipment failure, lack of material and etc. This makes companies pursue leanmanufacturing. To achieve lean manufacturing, the production process must be conducted in avariety of effective monitoring, so that production can be transparency. Based on themonitoring data, the optimization of production scheduling can be done, lean production canbe achieved. Therefore, production monitoring is a key method to improve productionefficiency, reduce production costs, and achieve lean production. With the background of themanufacturing, this paper research on automated, lean and comprehensive monitoring ofproduction, and try to use wireless sensor networks to achieve efficient and reliableproduction monitoring for the lean production.This paper summed up requirements of the industrial applications of wireless sensornetwork, targeting the characteristics of industrial environments and the actual demand ofindustrial monitoring. This paper also analyzed the characteristics of wireless sensor networks.According to these characteristics, some typical industrial applications were got, including theproduction process monitoring, logistics and monitoring, environmental monitoring andequipment monitoring. For these industrial applications, this paper analyzes the difficulty ofapplying the wireless sensor networks in industry, and proposed solutions based on wirelesssensor network: improved routing algorithm for wireless sensor networks and positioningalgorithms, and optimized hardware and software design. Based on the actual situation of theindustrial environment, LEACH routing protocol has been improved. So that it is not only forindustrial applications, but also with a longer network life. This article has also improved theMonte Carlo algorithm to enhance its positioning accuracy, and make it more suitable fortracking and positioning moving target in industrial environments. In addition, the articlesalso introduced the designing of wireless sensor network.In summary, this paper improved the routing protocols, location algorithms and designingof wireless sensor network to make it suitable for industrial environments, achieve itsindustrial applications, and to provide a reliable basis for lean production.
