Content Analysis Of Our Country’s English International Communication Websites

Since the end of last century, the English international communication websites ofour country have been established and gain great achievements in the scale, theinternational influence and the communication effect. In our country, the developmentof the international communication websites has attracted the government’s greatconcern, and with the government’s powerful support, an international communicationwebsite system has been expanding, including the important national news websites, theimportant local news websites, the English version of commercial portal sites, thegovernment websites, the website of China’s English media，and the English version oforganization/constitution/industry websites.To find out the performance of the websites in international communication, thisstudy investigates the column content of51international website of our country. Themethodology of content analysis is employed to examine the websites according to atotal of83content and functionality items grouped into seven categories. Researchresults show that the common contents and functions displayed on the websites includenews, introduction of China and some common service functionalities, while theuncommon ones are opinions, language learning, and personalized service.According to the content analysis results, the websites have made great progresseswhile still have some problems to solve. Aiming to enhance the communication effect,the websites may improve their column content construction by deciding the focus ofcolumn construction according to audience needs, communicating in various forms andby various multimedia means, improving the construction of the service columns andinteractive columns, promoting the internationalization of Chinese language and cultureby developing language learning content construction, and targeting audience accuratelyto realize the optimization of the whole international communication system of China.
