Research And Implementation Of Intra Prediction In H.264/AVC Standard

In the H.264codec, this design addresses on the structure research and design of intra prediction part. Firstly, estimation between several fast intra prediction algorithms is taken, and one algorithm, which makes the number of candidate modes decreased from9downto5, is choosen based on PSNR‐BR relationship. Next, based on the algorithm above, a pipeline arrangement is proposed, and a structure of double‐pipeline in parallel is introduced which saves half of the encoding time. Then, the hardware structure of H.264codec is given, in which the philosophy of reuse is distributed in modules such as prediction, cost calculation, etc. Last, in the comparison with other design, this design decreases the time of both encoding and decoding without much additional area. This design could encode the stream of1080p@30Hz with120MHz clock frequency while80MHz in decoding the same stream.
