Software system is an increasing part of life, from business applications toconsumer products. When people enjoy the facility from the software system, theyalso have an experience with software that does not work as expected. Softwaretesting is one of the key activities of the quality assurance, and people pay much moreattention to it than before. But as more and more effort is spent in software testing,testing is facing the new challenge: how to improve test efficiency. Software testautomation can deal with this issue well. This paper analyzes the strong and weekpoints of test automation, and then concludes the relationship between test activitiesand software test automation. Test automation can improve test efficiency and testcoverage.It’s very difficult to test the ADSL access device, because the device hascomplex architecure and should have high quality. During the integration and systemtest, a whole complex test envirement is required, while the lab is always lack of theresources. And as the requirement increasing, there are more and more services thedevice should provide. It’s very hard to test so many functions in time with the limitedresources. And as the functions increasing, the tester has to spend more effort onregression test.This paper analyzes the automation test tools, and the test methods for ADSLaccess device. In order to cover the specical test reqiurement, this paper introducesthe design and implementation of the software test automation platform for ADSLaccess device. This platform not only can control the test execution and analyze the log, but also support multi-interface, data driven, invoking the test equirement andcross platform. It also has better expansibility.This platform has been used in the real project. The result shows that theautomation rate of the system test got60%, and the effort in the system reduces from80.8person week to63person week. It improves the test execution efficiency greatly.
