The polarization navigation method based on natural characteristics has animportant significance and military application value since its stability at resistingdestructing from man-made factors in a wide range, especially in the specialcircumstances like the war, where the satellite navigation signals are weaken andeven vanish. For the disadvantages of the existing navigation angle acquisitionmethod of bionic polarization navigation, the paper proposed the acquisitionmethod of navigation angle information with the symmetry of the atmospherepolarization pattern, based on the analysis of the symmetry distribution properties.The method provided the new theories and methods to solve the key scientificissues in the study of bionic polarization navigation, and had an important guidingsignificance for the method of bionic polarization navigation.The main contents of this paper are included as below:(1) The paper demonstrated that the atmospheric polarization pattern had thestable symmetry characteristics, based on the analysis of the distributioncharacteristics of the atmosphere polarization pattern. The paper established thesymmetry model of the atmospheric polarization pattern, and studied the method ofsymmetry extraction, in order that the navigation direction angle reference datumwould be established and the navigation direction angle value would be calculated.(2) The paper proposed an algorithm of the symmetry parameter inversion ofatmospheric polarization pattern, in order to implement the navigation directionangle acquisition with the atmospheric polarization pattern. According to a finitenumber of sampling points of the atmospheric polarization pattern, the function ofpolarization response sum is defined, to calculate the position of the solar meridianand to calculate the navigation direction angle. The corresponding experiment isgiven to test the method of the algorithm.(3) The paper proposed an algorithm to acquire the navigation direction anglebased on the symmetry detection of the atmosphere polarization mode. Using thesymmetry detection of the distribution of atmospheric polarization mode andaccording to the test results of the symmetry, the navigation direction angle iscalculated. At last, the corresponding experiment is also given to test the algorithm.
