Roller plays an important role in road and bridge construction. At present, thedomestic vibratory roller, especially the intelligent vibratory roller, has still a largegap with oversea similar products on compaction quality. The performance of rollercontrol system has a direct relation on the compaction quality. Therefore, based onthe theory of the current domestic and international vertical vibration roller, it isnecessary to research roller control system with high performance and high level soas to improve the compaction level of domestic high-end intelligent vibratoryroller.First of all, a comprehensive analysis was made on the function requirement ofintelligent roller and development requirement&working environment of thecontrol system. The hardware system with EPEC2023controller at the core wasbuilt. In the hardware system KCV-4a of vehicle carrying type was adopted todetect compaction degree and CAN bus was used to transfer data among hardwaredevices. Based on the hardware system, monitoring the status of the roller andsetting the control parameter could be realized. In addition, with the application ofGPS positioning system&GSM network communication, the remote control andcommunication of the roller could be realized.Second, with different roller parameters, such as vibration frequency, amplitudeand speed, the roller worked in the soil environment of different characteristics.Measure the real-time the compaction degree corresponding to the differentparameters, so as to find out a set of best roller working parameters correspondingto the target degree of compaction. On the basis of a good deal of data, BP neuralnetwork model was established to obtain the values of the optimal vibrationfrequency, amplitude and speed parameters corresponding to the target degree ofcompaction. In practical work using the trained neural network model, once thewater content&dry density of current soil environment, current compaction degreeand the target degree of compaction were input, a set of best roller workingparameters could be quickly and accurately acquired.Finally, the three independent hydraulic circuits adjusting steplessly the vibration frequency, amplitude and rolling speed were designed. The fuzzycontrollers were respectively designed to adjust the vibration frequency, amplitudeand rolling speed. By means of the fuzzy controllers, the roller is capable ofautomatically adjusting the three parameters in compaction process, so as toachieve the best compaction effect.The result provides the theoretical basis for further study and is valuable toengineering application of the vertical vibration roller’s investment. Furthermore, itis a good reference for research and development of the other engineeringmachinery with intelligence requirements.
