With the rapid development of the science and technology, the satellite communicationplays an more and more important role in the political, economic and military fields. It hasbecome an important part of the modern communication. As a carrier of satellitecommunication, the structural design of satellite network has a great impact on thecommunication performance. In satellite network technology, network routing technology isat the core, and determines the performance of the entire communication system.This thesis takes the multi-layer satellite network structure and network routing protocolas the studies. First, this thesis designes a multi-layer satellite model to meet the researchrequirements.Then, based on the studies of the previous research, especially MLSR routingprotocol, we propose and design an optimized routing protocol NMLSR, and elaborates thebasic idea and design principles of NMLSR protocol in detail.In order to effectively assess the performance of the designed multilayer satellitenetwork and routing protocol, this thesis selects VRNET and STK an the network simulationsoftwares. We use STK to build the GEO/MEO/LEO multi-layer satellite network model atfirst. In the model, MEO and LEO layers chose walker delta structure, and use the permanentISLs in the same track to establish a stable network topology. The GEO layer uses the ringstructure with a regular interval. After this, we build a simulation environment of multi-layersatellite network by VRNET, and set up multiple sets of simulation scenarios to test theeffectiveness of the network model and the performance of NMLSR routing protocol underdifferent environments. Finally, get the final conclusion by comparing the simulation resultswith MLSR.Simulation results prove that the designed multi-layered satellite network model hasbetter delay characteristic and stability, comparing with the single-layer satellite network.Relativing to MLSR protocol, NMLSR routing protocol has the smaller reroutingcomputation overhead, lower packet lossrate and stronger ability to cope unexpectedemergencies such as sudden changes in the network traffic and satellite failures.
