With the development of interactive technology of simulation for natural phenomena, thevisual simulation of ocean waves has been paid more and more attention. Compared withother natural phenomena, the simulation of ocean waves’ motion shows its significantadvantages such as controllability, safety and economization, but to a great extent, thecomplexities and randomness of which in time and space also lead to the difficulties insimulation. In this thesis, a study on simulating for3D random ocean waves is presented, andwe also propose some improvements for the algorithms based on methods of construction andthe rendering technology of models.First of all, we analyze the live algorithms at home and abroad on modeling of oceanwaves in this thesis, and use the method based on conformation to establish our3D model:We disperse the modified3D Gerstner model to compute the coordinate for sea surface grids,then obtain all parameters of which utilizing classical frequency spectrum of P-M wave chartand directional spectrum of ocean waves to simulate the modeling of ocean waves. In thesecond place, we use a view-dependent grid to build the model: only the view port area forprecut, the remaining area is automatically a smooth transition, sea grid as the viewpointmoves in real time, continuous expansion, which not only avoids clipping infinite sea area forsaving memory, but also prevents the shift in the field of vision. Therefore, this method meetsthe demand of virtual scene cruise perfectly. In addition, by the references, according to thegeneral partitioning principles of the sea and waves’ levels, we put forward a new wavemotion of partitioning method as the basis for the development of simulation systems, andalso as the users’ operating standards.Moreover, we discuss the technology on the mesh, the reflection and the illumination ofVisual Simulation for3D random ocean waves are in detail with Direct3D graphics hardware,and design the graphical user interface for the visual simulation system according to WindowsForms and message interception mechanism. In the end,3D ocean waves’ motion model andrendering are realized in Visual Studio2008. We developed a new extending wave module forVega Prime. The simulation result demonstrates that this thesis gives attention to real-time andrealism simulation, and the program of visual simulation for3D random ocean waves hasbetter interaction. The visual simulation system of3D random ocean waves not only providestechnical support for the exploratory development of realistic simulation of the marineenvironment, but also lays the foundation for the further research of the naval simulation testbased on the virtual marine environment.
