For the same performance condition satisfied, the vector array need less array elementsand smaller size in contrast to traditional pressure hydrophones. And the vector array candiscriminate the object’s port/starboard. Especially on the occasion of low frequency and faintsignal detected, the vector array has widely application prospect.Vector sound field characteristic are studied at first in this thesis, and then it analysisphysical theory on vector hydrophone information processing. Azimuth angle estimation ofsingle vector hydrophone are put forward on starting with single vector hydrophoneinformation processing, then reviewed the vector hydrophone’s conventionalbeamforming(CBF) and adaptive array processing. When two targets are nearly or one signalis louder, it will decreased the target resolution capability and not easily differentiated thetargets with CBF. The ability of multi-target detection and anti-adjacent interference areeasily realized with the method of adaptive array processing.When using vector sensor array CBF measuring multi-target, the quiet target may becovered by louder one if they are largely contrast in intensity and nearness in azimuth. So,distinguished multi-targets became difficultly, and the target resolution capability is weak.The radiated noise frequency spectra of underwater vehicle are impossible quite same, andsome have line spectrum characteristics. Aiming at this characteristic, this paper advances amethod of multi-target detection technology on distribution characteristic of targets frequencyspectrum-azimuth. To2-D vector sensor array, first using CBF processing vibration velocityand pressure signal respectively, then estimating every frequency spectrum unit azimuthangle by cross spectral method with wave bunch processing data, then choose from azimuthangle estimation and determined the rule of weight sum of line spectrum, and last use Caponbeamforming by the result. This method is better used to multi-target detection, andsuppressing interference of louder signal to quiet one. The more sea trail identification of thismethod is needed in engineering application and generalized in the future.
