Jiangsu TV’s dating show If You Are the One has become the champion of nationwide variety show like a dark horse in2010. Meanwhile, tens of dating show appeared on TV such as Hunan TV’s let’s date, Shandong TV’s Love knocking at the door, Dragon TV’s cream of the crop. Their program format and program content are both different from previous dating show. These shows lead to the ratings boom Suddenly, set a new TV dating show wave off.As we all know, although TV program has the property of culture, it is also a kind of commodity. Like common commodity, TV programs have the Life-cycle. In our country, Shanxi TV’s TV matchmaker is regarded as TV dating show’s ancestor. Meanwhile Beijing TV’s We Meet Tonight is also famous. The question is, why these TV dating shows of1980s and1990s disappear? Why a new round of TV dating shows grows up and wins the TV programs’ championship? Is there reason of culture besides TV dating show’s innovation and change? What culture environment we live in? What should we think about TV dating shows?Firstly, this paper divides by time, introduces the three periods of China’s TV dating show:forming period, evolution period and prosperity period, chooses one or two typical programs to introduce the transformations of these periods’ TV dating shows by analyzing their form, function and purpose. At last, this paper summarizes the development logical:the service function turns into recreational function, the simplex format turns into polybasic format, the role of emcee changes into the leader of program, the ideas of participants change from close to open.This paper analyses the popular dating show If You Are the One in depth. Firstly, Jiangsu TV’s If You Are the One with a good audience rating has inner reason:unique and mature cultural industry processes which connect each other. They rise the program’s enjoyment by using the superiority of TV media and win the audiences’ attention. In the section of mature cultural industry processes, the program is separated into three parts:preliminary is honored guest’s choose and collocation; mid-time is the expression of toastmasters and emotion experts. Later period is the program’s audience rating and advertisement. If You Are the One’s success also has external reason:the rise of popular culture, focus on the rest boys and girls provides the external environment supports for If You Are the One whose purpose is established a platform on which everyone can discuss the marriage ideas. Meanwhile, the programs relate to the house, car, the relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, rich second generation, make itself to a popular topic. Third, the entertainment of programs satisfied the audience.On the popular culture background, the dating show still has some disputes. The third group of TV dating show like Hunan TV’s let’s date, Jiangsu TV’s If You Are the One have much dispute from they are presented. The State Administration of Radio Film and Television has criticized the false, vulgar elements in the program and asked to put right. Aim at these questions, the paper also makes the rational criticism from popular culture’s position:the phenomenon is "a civil carnival", the essence is "a false need", the result is "will we Amusing Ourselves to Death?" The writer boosts the research from these three aspects and analyses it deeply. But, we should understand nowadays TV dating show and popular culture entertainment. In this entertainment, people participate in the show on one’s own, China’s TV realizes plebification. Besides, TV dating show is a display of popular culture on TV, a display of the society. The key of pursuit to true love is ourselves.
