The multi-channel pulse amplitude analyzer is a commonly used instrument inmeasurement and analysis of nuclear physics. Benefiting form the development of digitalsignal processing technology and the improvement of semiconductor technology, technicalspecification of digital multi-channel pulse amplitude analyzer (DMCA) improvedsignificantly in spectrum resolution and pulse through rate. And digital multi-channel pulseamplitude analyzer could be more flexible than analog multi-channel pulse analyzer.Purpose to improve the technical specifications, and extend the application rang of thedigital multi-channel pulse amplitude analyzer. According to the problems on the functionsimplement and the design optimizing of the digital multi-channel pulse amplitude analyzer, adesign of digital multi-channel pulse amplitude analyzer was proposed in this dissertation, which based on FPGA and high-speed high-resolution analog-to-digital converter.Logic function of digital multi-channel analyzer was described by using VHDL. Thefunction module design, logic synthesis and simulation was implemented with QUARTUS IIsoftware. EP3C25type FPGA device was used to control the AD9233analog-to-digitalconverter. A series of FPGA-based digital signal processing module was designed in thisdissertation, such as digital trapezoidal shaping module, pulse pile-up judging module, peakpick-up module, multi-channel analyzing module, etc. As a consequence the input pulsesignal was converted into energy spectrum data.Designed digital multi-channel pulse amplitude analyzer was able to sample the inputsignal continuously. And the input data was able to be real-time processed. This methodovercomes the dead-time problem that could exist in traditional MCA based on processorbecause of the insufficiency of processing capacity. Energy spectrum data obtained by digitalmulti-channel pulse amplitude analyzer was transmitted to host computer through serial portfor further processing.FPGA-based experimental verification shows that the design of digital multi-channelsignal analyzer completed to achieve the desired requirements.
