Along with social progress and technological development, the increasingly highrequirements on the sensitivity of the sonar, which requires the sonar is able to detect smallenough to signal an urgent need for a new detection of weak signals. In recent years, the studyof chaos is deeply developing, and the application of the chaos theory has also beenexpanding, and it shows its unique advantages in the weak signal processing. Target detectionis the most commonly used active sonar, but in the actual detection, the weakly signal of thetarget will normally be drowned in the strong interference. The Duffing system based on thechaos theory could detection the weak periodic signal in the strong noise, and it could bereach a very low signal to noise ratio. This paper attempts to use the system of Duffing’sprinciples and methods that the application of detection the weak signal in the underwateracoustic signal detection. That is, in the context of strong reverberation detection of the weakof the target echo.At first,this paper describes the reverberation and target echo characteristics of theunderwater acoustic signals, and for modeling the echo use the bright spot model, at the sametime introduce the commonly methods and techniques of which detect the underwateracoustic signals, and compared the advantages and disadvantages of the methods,draw forththe superiority of detect weak signal use the chaotic theory, and demonstrates the feasibilitythat the reverberation and target echo can be detect use the Duffing system. And then willdescribe the development of chaos theory and some properties of the Duffing system, analyzethe criterion of the detection signal use the Duffing system. The methods and procedures thatuse the Duffing system in weak signal detect, and study the Duffing system response and usethe relevant criterion to judge the bright spot model,in oder to achieve the detection of thetarget echo. At the same time in order to achieve real-time detection use the Duffing system,simulate the reverberation and target echo signal use the segmentation method of the phasediagram, to verify the detection use Duffing system in real-time.The paper study the Duffingsystem can detect the minimum pulse,and the impact of the signal amplitude obey a differentdistribution of the Duffing system,then give the conclusions.Finally, the paper use the Duffing system to detect the target signal in strong noise andreverberation, verify the feasibility of the Duffing system to detect the underwater acousticsignals, and process the lake experiment data, to prove the feasibility of the detection signalby the Duffing system.
