In views of existing inefficiencies for spare parts inventory does not reflect the value and ordering in advance of spare parts, from the demand point, paper presents the thinking which uses a lead time to measure the difficulty of detaining. With the value of spare parts, lead time and demand, the classification method of spare parts based on SVL is presented.(1) Spare part is different from the general consumables, tools, raw materials and equipment in the contribution to the production. By classification of spare parts, purchasing departments can get the procurement inventory of spare parts based on the inventory in advance, by which demand chain and supply chain, warehouse headquarters and on-site warehouse, purchasing and users can communicate with each other, to ensure the integrity of the spare parts inventory to meet the production requirements.(2) Spare parts demands can be divided into intermittent demand and continuous demand. Continuity demands are easier to predict and manage than the intermittent demand, and more important impacting on production. Depending on whether the equipment inspection and maintenance program, the intermittent demand can be predicted by Croston method, Bootstrap method, IFM method respectively.(3)Under thinking over carefully the continuity and discontinuity of the spare parts demands, relationship with inspection maintenance, as well as safety stock, value, lead time and other factors of spare parts, SVL classification method is established classification method.(4) Based on the the VS8programming language platform, classification method software based on the demand chain SVL spare parts of inventory management was developed. Focus on the framework, the theoretical basis of system development and software development steps are discussed in detail. On this basis, a easy to operate, visual, human interface inventory management software was developed.(5) For the optimization object, the spare parts of Wuhan Petrochemical Co. Ltd inventory management was-classificated again using self-developed SVL classification of software. Thinking over carefully the continuity and discontinuity of the spare parts demands, relationship with inspection maintenance, as well as safety stock, value, lead time and other factors of spare parts, SVL classification method is established, which is a scientific integrity of the spare parts inventory management system.
