(Ethylene oxide) can also be called oxidation ethylene.It is the second important chemical products of ethylene industry in the downstream derivatives. It is extensive used in synthetic intermediates. It is mainly used for the production of ethylene glycol, ethanol amine kind, ethers, non-ion surfactant and so on. It is an important synthetic organic intermediates. EO/PEO plant has the following characteristic:the process flow long and complexity, operation condition change frequently. The raw material kinds are variety. They contain oxygen, inflammable and explosive meduim, corrosive medium.It also has extremly high temperature, low temperature and high pressure operation condition. It has high requirements of reliability and safety in automation system. Therefore the design of automation system has important impacts on automation level improvment, production process safety and operation steady.The expansion of EO/EG is to output a new product PEO. PEO is a raw material in the downstream derivatives.It is used to product NIS,EOA and DMEOA. After this expansion, EO output will be reached to350million kg/year, PEO will be150million kg/year.During this expansion, the control program re-design, programming and testing.The transformation of the control system and field instrumentation will be completed.This thesis is based on BYC-BASF EO/PEO expansion plant design. It introduce the plant basic process flow and control concept. Material risk, high product quality and safety of production requirements are related with instrument, control system and safety instrument system reliability and advanced. In order to achieve reliable and quality control of process variables, there are high demands on the automation control. This plant will use advanced and reliability DCS, SIS, PLC and FGS systems to control variable.Now the plant has been put into operation and achieved good results.
