Pulse diode pumping passively Q-switched laser is a kind of all-solid-state lasers which has narrow pulse width and high peak power. For the advantages of high efficiency, simple structure and favourable stability, it has an extensive potential value in the field of marine navigation, remote sensing, lidar and medical treatment. Thus, in this paper we analyse the theorical model first and then compare it with the experimental data. Mainly we discusse how pumping current and pulse width, the reflectivity of output mirror and the initial transmission of Cr4+:YAG influence the output energy, pulse width and pulse interval time. The contents are summerized as below:1. Based on the rate equation of passively Q-switching, we consider surplus inverse population combining with the characteristics of diode pulse pumping.Then formulate the interpulse time and the number of pulses. Emphatically we analyse the pulse interval time due to pumping current and pulse width, the reflectivity of output mirror and the initialtransmission of Cr4+:YAG and simulate the model with numberical method.2. Solve the rate equation of passively Q-switching, simulate pulse energy and pulse width as a function of the reflectivity of output mirror and the initialtransmission of Cr4+YAG. Make an optimum choice depending on the gain of diode pumping module.3. According to the theory of thermal focal length and ABCD transmission matrix; we optimize the parameter of plane-plane cavity and plane-concave cavity.4. Experiment on a passively Q-switched laser pumped by pulse diode. The result indicates that the numerical simulation of pulse interval time coincides with the experimental data.
