In this dissertation, the research development of LD-pumped Cr4+: YAG passively Q-switched microchip laser, which includes Cr4+: YAG passively Q-switched infrared laser, Cr4+:YAG passively Q-switched laser self-frequency-doubling output and self Q-switched Cr4+,Nd3+ co-doped YAG laser, is reviewed following the generalization of the development history of all-solid-state lasers firstly. Then, CW-pumping and pulse-pumping are experimentally and theoretically compared based on the mechanism of Cr4+: YAG passively Q-switched microchip laser. The pulse characteristics and the stability of LD-pumped Cr4+: YAG passively Q-switched microchip laser are principally studied. The primary research work is listed as below:1. The characteristics and stability of LD-pulse-pumped Cr4+:YAG passively Q-switched microchip laser are studied. The influence of pump repetition rate and pump width on the jitter of output frequency is analyzed. Compared with CW-pumping, it is found that the pulse-pumping has the superiority on output pulse stability, high peak power and high optical-optical conversion efficiency.2. It is studied that the stability of output frequency is affected by duty cycle of pump pulse seriously and the jitter rate of output frequency is proportional to the duty cycle. The method of compressing duty cycle is able to reduce the dispersion scope of output frenquency.3. Based on the research of output pulse stability, the method of pre-pumping mechanism is employed to improve the output characteristics of Cr4+: YAG passively Q-switched microchip laser. The influence of DC bias current, overlapping pulse-pumping current, pump width and pump repetition rate on the output pulse stability is analyzed according to the experimental result.
