With the information technology’s rapid development and the Internet speed globalization in the whole world, especially, after the Internet has been applied in commerce, the flow of the IP service data is explosively growing. Because of the increasing of new services such as data services and visual services, the flow of mostly mobile network data is carried by IP, which is a challenge to traditional TDM/ATM carrying patterns. The way that IP is used in service loading has already reached an agreement. Since the service and network applying with IP is being popularized, that IP technology is regarded as the next generation network carrying technology has come true. In future, IP Ethernet flow rate will be transported by optical fiber transmission network, which will be optimized in the view of delivering flow and become intelligent, convergence, broadband and integrating.Since the regrouping of telecommunications structure has finished, China Unicom as one of the three telecoms operators, has five different IP carrying networks. As a administrator of network operation and maintenance, to deepen the understanding of the situation operation and resource allocation is necessary, at the mean time, offers a scientific and proper program also proposes a reasonable suggestion for safeguarding the network of the whole city, makes it to be one safe stable and efficient network.This paper present eight chapters, from IP carrying network construction to the integration, application and analysis of each network, which is ordered respectively.On the basis of the analysis of the network present situation, the next expanding plan and the focal point of the safeguarding work are arranged as well as.The chapter one introduces the concept and origin of the IP carrying network, lists the design factor of IP carrying network and identical network model; the chapter two presents the structural organization and the service arrangement of the three major networks. The chapter three orders the relationships between network structure integration and connections of the service carrying. The chapter four makes a penetrating analysis of the recent two important service carrying application----soft switch and3G IP carrying network. The chapter five dissects the present situation of the network operation. Based on the analysis of the KPI index, main flow rate and link bandwidth, it advances expanding suggestion and lists the problems of maintenance works. The chapter six, in the light of existing problems, proposes a better scheme including the structural regulations, rational principle and concrete steps. The chapter seven, according to the understanding of the direction of network’s development, states an idea as future IP carrying network. The final chapter explored several solutions to VPN, including all kinds of VPN technology’s differences, the accomplishment of inter-AS MPLS VPN and the choice of VPN technology.
