Research And Practice Of China Telecom ATM/FR Network Evolution Scheme

The integration of all IP is the future trend of the communication networks. For SPs, the ideal situation is all services over IP, which can cut network operation and maintenance costs, reduce the pressure of existing multi-network operation and maintenance, while providing comprehensive business and new business in the future. Therefore, the early deployment of China Telecom’s ATM/FR in the next few years will face a situation of switching to other networks, but now these networks are also carrying a large number of high value business, and they also has at least5years in their life cycles. In the next few years,how to fully utilize existing basic data network resources, and seek the convergence strategy which can integrate the IP network is an important issue that the SPs are facing.In this paper, based on the study of China Telecom’s ATM/FR network, and for different network development strategies, two protection and optimization programs are proposed. By analyzing and comparision of two evolution programs (network Transfer, service alternative), the transfer program is paied a in-depth research. The main contents include:The study of two protection and optimization programs on basic data network:ATM backbone network expansion and optimization, rebuild the heterogeneous ATM equipments for optimization and evolution, and focus on the study of latter evolution of the program; MPLS VPN-related study, and implement the evolution of ATM network by MPLS L2VPN; Research on the key points of the evolution of strategies,three evolution strategies are introduced and give a totally analyzing by the comparison of the three.Then the integration process with the MPLS VPN is introduced.The main results obtained are presented based on data network to the IP MPLS network evolution strategy, combined with the existing cyber source and the existing network technology, on the basis of the data network to the IP MPLS network evolution feasibility undertook sufficient analysis, for the latter part of business security and development work launched formally to prepare, and explain the next step and the ultimate goal is discussed.
