Traveling-wave tubes (TWTs) are the most widely used in the vacuum device. TWTs are widely used in radar, communications, broadcasting, accelerators, and other electronic systems. As the key component of TWT amplifiers, the slow-wave structure(SWS) critically determines the performance of TWTs. The traditional SWSs include the helix and coupled-cavity structures. Among these slow-wave structures, the helical TWT inherently has wide bandwidth, but its power capacity is small. The coupled-cavity TWT has the highest power-handling capability, but its bandwidth is relatively narrow. Thus, seeking novel slow-wave structures enabling better properties with high efficiency, wideband and high power for millimeter-wave traveling wave tubes has become one direction of research.At present folded rectangular waveguide has shown a good balance between power and bandwidth. However, with TWT developing to higher frequency, losses of TWT developing to a higher frequency, losses of TWT become more and more notable and can not be ignored. Meanwhile, owing to using the circular electron beam, the beam current and the supreme attainable output power will be restricted.A novel and concise structure called folded rectangular groove waveguide is now presented. And this structure derived from the idea of bending a conventional rectangular groove along its longitudinal, which was brought forward by Prof. Wang, etc。 Paper shows it’s the result of electromagnetic characteristics and the beam-wave interaction. This structure evolves from a conventional rectangular groove guide bending the groove along its longitudinal direction, which can operate with the sheet electron beam or the circular electron beam. This paper shows the electromagnetic characteristics and the beam-wave interaction of the folded rectangular groove waveguide, and compare them with those of the folded rectangular waveguide with the same size, by utilizing HFSS and CST Microwave Studio and Particle Studio. In the simulating, the transition waveguides between folded groove guide slow-wave structure and3mm standard rectangular waveguide are designed, which can convet the mode of a rectangular waveguide in the working mode of this structureThis paper reportes the electromagnetic characteristics and the beam-wave interaction of the folded V-shape groove waveguide, and compare them with those of the folded V-shape waveguide with the same size, by utilizing HFSS and CST Microwave Studio and Particle Studio.Paper put forward the folded Ridge loading rectangular groove guide and the folded short Ridge loading rectangular groove guide. We study electromagnetic characteristics of the two new SWSs and compare them with those of the folded rectangular groove guide with the same size. This paper get much valuable experience in for future research.
