At present, information technology is dominating our society, while the basic technology of the society is constituted of communication technology, computer technology and anti-interference technology. As spectrum is becoming more and more crowded, the millimeter wave communication system is of great importance because of its wide bandwidth and potential service capacity. Thus, the application of the millimeter wave communication system becomes an inevitable trend. TDD technology has been an effective method for solving the contradiction between the increasing rapidly communication service and the limitation of spectrum resources. Therefore, the study of the TDD millimeter wave communication system becomes urgent and necessary. This paper firstly introduces several types of basic structure of the communication system, and analyzes the corresponding merits and demerits according to the relevant technical indicators of this project. Based on the specific index of the project, a RF channel framework with two stage up-conversion and down-conversion is proposed. And then, all modules are analyzed, which include modem module, local oscillator modules (at305MHz,1.873GHz and38.4GHz), up-converter and down-converter modules, and millimeter wave module. The basic theories and schemes of every module are given in detail. Some problems encountered in the project are also presented. The measured results show that the operating frequency of the TDD communication system is from40.518GHz to40.638GHz, the output power of the transmitter is22dBm (single carrier), the sensitivity of receiver is-61.33dBm and its dynamic range is20dB. The transmit-receive switch works well and the entire system is a type of TDD. The isolation between transmitter and receiver is more than100dB.
