As different devices have different display color gamut, the key point of the cross-device color transmission is to convert the color signal from the source device to the destination device. Different convertion method will achieved different reproduction result.Therefore, inorder to ensure the accuracy of cross-media color transmission, the transmission of color across devices need for the conversion of color space and gamut mapping. In addition, with the further development of the Laser display technology and also with people’s pursut of life, kinds of wide-gamut device came into ourlives, however the camera signal is still of the original color gamut, how to expand the current TV signal appropriate and also to take full advantage of the wide-gamut display devices has become a problem need to be solved.This paper which focused on the problems currently existing in the field of cross-device color transmission, introduced the content and research method of virtual gamut expansion. And also described the two focus points of the research, device gamut boundary description and virtual color expansion.This paper first analyzed and summarized the two kinds of gamut boundary description methods. One is device color gamut boundary description method based on analysis and the other is device color gamut boundary description method based on discrete. And on the basis of in-depth study of the above algorithms, in this paper a gamut boundary algorithm based on graham algorithm was proposed. This method first sampled enough gamut points and then corrected the error in the concave side of the gamut boundary through several iterations. Result showed that this method was effective to solve the problems.Virtual gamut expansion is another key research point of the cross-device transmission. In this paper, two gamut expansion methods were proposed. One is a simple color gamut expansion method in CIE XYZ color space, which was based on Grassmann’s color law and principle of different spectrum of the same color. In this method a gamut correct method was proposed, which greatly reduced the error caused by the heterogeneity of the CIE XYZ color space. In addition another gamut expansion method based on the relatively uniform color space CIE La*b*was proposed. By the accurate calculation of the gamut boundary, this method effect solved the cross-device color transmission from ordinary display signal to the wide-gamut device. Simulation results show that the method has a low complexity and can effect solve the cross-device color transmission from ordinary display signal to the wide-gamut device.
