With the progress of human society and rapid development of economic, the energydemand is increasing. In the current international energy situation, due to the global energycrisis, energy saving management got the attention of all countries, especially in the buildingenergy saving. In order to respond positively to the State Council regulations onenergy-saving regulations of public institutions, a lots of public buildings units haveestablished their own building energy management systems, resulting in more energyconsumption data. But not all the data brings corresponding information. How to extractuseful knowledge from the large amount of business data in the building energy managementsystems and assist the building energy-saving management system fulfils, has become the keyproblem to us. Therefore, this paper taking the some public building energy managementsystems of a city as the background, builds up a data warehouse about energy consumption ofcity level public buildings, to provide excellent data for decision support.Firstly, this paper describes the concept of data warehouse and related technologies, andthen illustrates the developing process of the data warehouse for energy consumptionmanagement of city public buildings. This process includes: model construction of datawarehouse, determination of the subject, dimension, measure and the multi-dimensional datamodel by the analysis of the present energy consumption business system; the extracting,cleaning, transforming and loading of data warehouse data, the extracted data from businesssystem need to be cleaned, transformed and loaded to data warehouse, which can beaccomplished by open source ETL tools of Kettle; Online Analytical Processing applicationdevelopment, to show the user a variety of data analysis and reporting using open sourceOLAP engine Mondrian and optimize the speed of OLAP response. At last, this papersummarizes and forecasts the application of data warehouse technology.
