With the rapid development of information technology and communications networks,the emergence and popularization of information appliances is accelerated,and the familychanged from endpoint to networkt. Home network is made up of home gateways andnetwork appliances. The promoting of the communication protocols is a key signs of thehome network maturity.From the perspective of purpose, there are many home network communication protocolAmong them, UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) as the representative of the Service DiscoveryProtocol, make network appliance has the ability of self-recognition and active integrationinto the network, users can’ zero-configure’ when structural changes in a home network. Thatmeet the requirements of home network usability. Discovery Protocol is one of the maincontents of this paper. Taking into account the appliance industry is highly competitivetraditional industry which profit is not high, this article focuses on how to implement servicediscovery in a low-cost MCU chip.Considering the characteristics of low-cost MCU chips, this paper cropped and modifiedstandard UPnP specifications as appropriate, and completed the design of the servicediscovery protocol for the low end8-bit16-bit microprocessors. The Protocol based on UPnP,focused on the realization of network appliances. It can implement device discovery,description, control, and event subscription, and can communicate with the control pointsrunning the context of traditional UPnP. Due to service discovery protocol is a session layerprotocol, this work also involved in the low end of the8-bit16-bit microprocessorimplementation of the transport layer and network layer protocols. In addition, on thepresentation layer, this article also provides a method to generate interface in pointsautomatically, in order to make controls easier. Therefore, this article has completed thedesign and implementation of the protocol stack for the low end of the8-bit16-bitmicroprocessors of the network layer, transport layer, session layer, the presentation layer.After testing, the implementation achieved the desired effect.
