Video conference system can help us participate in the conference anytime and anyway.H.323is a recommendation from ITU-T that defines the protocols to provide multimediacommunication sessions on packet network and is widely used in video conference systems.On the other hand, compared to H.323, SIP which is a recommendation from IETF thatdefines the protocols to manage multimedia sessions on IP network is much simpler, moreflexible and extensible and is the main protocol in IMS (IP Multimedia Sub-system).Therefore, applying SIP to the commercial video conference systems on the internet is highlysignificant.According to this situation, related RFC documents describe video conferenceframework based on SIP. As important blocks in the conference framework, SIP server andvideo conference server manipulate the SIP signaling, manage the conference resources andmanipulate the behavior of users. Therefore, how to according to conference frameworkspecification or extend the conference framework to design and implement server has recentlybecome a hot research field.By studying the SIP Protocol,its related technologies and conference framework, thispaper aims to design and implement a SIP server which meets the needs of video conferenceserver in this paper and a practical video conference server. At the same time, the researchachievements are applied to the commercial video conference system to meet the needs ofvideo conference.This paper makes use of SIP Servlet to design and implement a new SIP server. The SIPserver in this paper implements registrar server, proxy server, location server and usermanager.The video conference server based on tightly coupled conference framework in thispaper implements manager system and controller system. The manager system manages theconference resources. The controller system mainly implements the focus which manipulatesthe behavior of users and terminals. Because the video conference server implemented in thispaper separates the users from terminals and makes use of different strategy to manipulateusers and terminals, the system in this paper is flexible and easy to use.
