Using broadband satellite communication system, a great deal of educational stations can be established in short order. It is helpful to improve the quality and efficiency of education resources, and extend educational population. It will also benefit the share and participation of education information between east cities and west regions, and has great application value and long-term social significance. Bidirectional broadband education satellite system is an effective approach to solve the communication limitation of the current educational information network in our country.In this thesis, the system configuration and protocol stack of bidirectional broadband satellite communication system is investigated, and main parameters of the system are proposed, which results in the primary design of the space segment, ground segment and network terminals.Firstly, the DVB-RCS/S2communication protocol is introduced. After a comprehensive survey and analysis, DVB-S2/DVB-RCS is selected as the protocol standard for the bidirectional broadband satellite communication system.Secondly, the requirements of the system are analyzed and main parameters of the system are defined, including the communication capacity, operation mode, working frequency and characteristics of space segment and ground segment. Thirdly, the system design of network framework and space-ground links is proposed. The communication protocol stack framework is constructed based on DVB-RCS/S2.Next, the primary design of space segment and ground segment are presented, as well as the network terminal design. The payload configuration and main parameters of space segment is evaluated, and the results are compatible with the existing satellite platform and payload techniques.Finally, the communication capacity of the system is evaluated by link analysis, while considering the characteristics of DVB-RCS/S2protocol, multi-beam, link redundancy, and rain attenuation. The result fulfilled the requirement of the system, which demonstrated the feasibility of the system design.
