With the rapid development of Wireless technology, Wireless Mesh Networks has been written to the IEEE standard as a promising technology to provide the last-mile accessibility for Internet subscribers and It has draws more and more scholars’attention. The current handoff decision strategy chooses targets according to the detected signal strength, in which way too many mesh clients will be associated to routes with stronger signal strength, resulting in severe load imbalance and a huge waste of wireless resource. Therefore, How to define a proper association rule with taking increasing the utilization of wireless resource and the performance of the network into consideration is a hot topic in researching in WMNs.According to the analysis of the current research on handoff procedure, a game theory based model and FPAG-Handoff algorithm are proposed, which are adapted to the characteristics of Wireless mesh networks.. In this article, we mainly did the following research work:(1)We have been researching on the theoretical and technical problem of association rules in the handoff procedure. After a painstaking effort in article collection, we have analysis and summarize the existing work on the association rules. So, we have some basic understanding to the difficult problem on association rules’enactment.(2)While in the environment with a large amount of mobile nodes trigger handoff procedure, the associations rule with one factor leads to a load imbalance and a higher packet loss rate. In this paper, we take the unique characteristic of wireless mesh networks into consideration, and a first priced auction game based handoff association rule is proposed. We treat the target selection in handoff as an auction game, and make the right choice based on the equilibrium bid strategy..(3) Based on the researching work (2), A first priced auction game based association rule which fit the wireless mesh networks’needing for the high performance is proposed, and based on the association rule we propose a modified IEEE802.11MAC protocol.(4) We have extend the NS-3network simulator, and bring about the first priced auction game based MAC layer and FPAG-Handoff algorithm. The simulation results show that this solution can fit the dynamic change of the wireless environment, and improve the throughput of the system and effectively balance the load.
