Analog IC tester is commonly-used instrument for analog IC testing. As animportant portion of analog IC tester, the quality of the waveforms generated by AWGhave direct influence to the testing results.Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) is the latest frequency synthesis technology andalways adopted in designing Arbitrary Waveform Generator (AWG). DDS technologyhas successfully implanted the signal phase into frequency generation. Through thephase of the signal, the corresponding voltage magnitude can be located, followingwhich the digital signal is converted into analog signal and the analog channel helps thesignal meet related requirements. AWG is mainly consisted of phase accumulator,look-up RAM, DAC circuit and LPF. Due to its high frequency resolution, ability tosynthesize arbitrary waveform and ease of integration, DDS based AWG is widely used.Firstly, this thesis gives a general introduction of the current development andtrend of AWG. In Chapter2, different frequency generating technologies are compared,and DDS technology is further discussed, including noise, spurious spectral and ways ofsuppression. In Chapter3, the design of DDS based AWG is discussed in detail,including two types of LPF for different signal, DAC circuits, differential amplifiercircuits, FPGA circuits, feedback circuits and bus interface etc.. Plus, related keydevices are introduced and circuits schematic are given. In the end, the system is testedand the results are analyzed. According to the test results, the DDS based AWG iscapable of generating waveforms of different shapes, frequencies and magnitude.Frequency resolution, frequency accuracy and other parameters can be basically meet.
