Based on Wireless Sensor Network(WSN), Wireless Multimedia SensorNetwork(WMSN) is spring up with the cheapness microphones and CMOS cameras.WMSN is independent of fixed establishments, and has the characteristics of facilitydeployment, low energy depletion, adapting to the dynamic topology, flexible,convenient. It not only flexible and convenient, but also can obtain abundancemultimedia data such as image, video. So it can monitor the environment more accurateand has widely application both in civil and military field. The technology of coverageand routing are the research emphases for WMSN, coverage rate directly determines themonitoring effect of WMSN and the higher coverage rate the better monitoring effect. Agood routing algorithm could ensure data transmit performance of the WMSN. For therestrictive of energy in WMSN, it is very useful to research routing algorithm that usesenergy efficiently and evenly.The emphases of this dissertation include increasing the area coverage rate ofWMSN with the method of optimizing the multimedia nodes direction throughintelligent optimization algorithm; analyzing the multimedia nodes and networks energydepletion; optimizing energy aware routing to use energy evenly, increase energyutilizing efficiency and reduce the routing hops.The material contents of this dissertation are summarized as follows:1. WMSN characteristics and applications are introduced. This dissertation makesa survey on coverage and routing technologies in WMSN and analyzes the currenttypical coverage methods and routing algorithms detailedly.2.3-D directional sensing model has been built. Artificial Fish-swarm optimizationmethod is used to increase coverage rate based on the sensing model. This methodlessens3-D area overlap coverage and enhances the network coverage rate byoptimizing multimedia sensors direction. The simulation results show that this methodcould increase network coverage rate efficiently, and the coverage rate is closer toacademic value than the typical swarm intelligent such as Particle Swarm Optimizationalgorithm. 3. On the premise of network coverage rate, this dissertation continues to analyzeboth the multimedia sensor node energy depletion and the whole network energydepletion; then proposes distance based energy aware multipath routing algorithm. Thisroute algorithm calculates the path probability according to the neighbor nodes residualenergy and the neighbor nodes distance to the sink node, chooses the lowest cost path toroute data. The simulation results indicate that this method can gain lower average hops,higher data receive rate and higher network energy efficiency than energy awarerouting.
