As one of the key components in the mobile wireless communication systems, antenna directly affects the quality of the overall communications. So we pay more and more attention on the antenna for its miniaturization and dual-band, even for multi-frequency design along with the rapid development of wireless mobile communication technology. The finite ground plane of the antenna has an important impact on the resonant frequency, antenna gain, bandwidth, and radiation pattern. When the ground plane is infinite, we analyze the impact of the antenna ground plane by means of the mirror method. But when the ground is finite, how to arrange the antenna to achieve the required performance and to be optimal is that we need to make further analysis. In this paper based on the project of "XX position tracking system design", we research and analyze on the application of a2.4GHz mobile terminal antennas, to achieve its optimization of the application when the ground is finite. The main works of the paper are as follows:Firstly, we study and analyze the conventional PIFA by HFSS simulation in the band of2.4GHz. In this way, we get many results from numerical simulations and measurements in different PIFA on ground geometry and the short-circuit boards, the radiator. Then we have a summary of factors that influence the performance of the antenna, and under a certain conditions, we have optimal design of the antenna.Secondly, we analyze the impact of various factors on the performance of the antenna which is used in the receiving equipment of "XX position tracking system" project through HFSS. This time, we make focus on the antenna resonant frequency of2.45GHz and a variety of factors that affect the directional properties, gain and bandwidth of antenna. And then optimize the use of the antenna according to the analysis conclusions to get the optimal isotropic gain. Finally, we summed up the situation in practice of the antenna, getting a way to use the antenna for different performance requirements.
