In today’s business, all enterprises are confronting with ever increasingly deepcompetition. The requirement of a well-defined and proficient management for an enterpriserelies greatly on the technology level of its Information Management System (IMS). Theenterprise’s technology level of its information management system decides the effectivenesslevel of its management proficiency which in turns has a great bearing on its corecompetitiveness. Electrical power supply enterprises, as a basis for the development ofnational economy, bear the social responsibility to provide the economy with an adequate andreliable supply of electricity. The construction of a comprehensive information managementsystem for power supply enterprises plays an undoubted role to determine the manageriallevel of the management and also plays an important and pivotal role to manage the power(supply) grid. Having spent years on the construction of its information system, ZhongshanPower Supply Bureau has established a comprehensive Information Management Systemcovering the areas of production safety, sales&marketing and services, assets management,human resources and performance management as well as office administration thus buildingand forming a pilot system for the domestic power supply industry in China in the realms ofasset management and integration platform with business. With the completion of such anadvanced prototype of information management cockpit for power enterprises in the country,an enterprise-level information management carrier is taking shape.However, in the course of continuous development of information technology in thepower supply industry, the security of information system stands out as one of the utmostimportant issues hereby illustrated in the following aspects:(1) The reliability of theelectricity business entity. With further development of information management system inthe power supply industry, the dependence of production sectors and related businessactivities on the information management system continues to unfold. All power supplyenterprises are nowadays facing the issue how to secure the reliability of their businesssystems and how to ensure the high level of availability of the business systems.(2) The dataintegrity of electricity business entity. Once the production and business data have becomeavailable in the form of electronic data, they might face the likelihood of being tampered with. There must be a series of security measures designed especially to ensure these data with theslightest possibility of being tampered during their transmission and storage process.(3) Thedata confidentiality of electricity business entity. There are different levels of dataconfidentiality involving the production and operation, which is another major issue thatconfronts the power supply enterprises with ensuring the confidential information not to beimproperly disclosed.In this thesis, a serious study has been made on the current state-of-the art andsafety-critical information technology in line with the characteristics and the status quo of thepower supply industry. The author has made use of the availability of current advanced andapplicable information security key technology, including IT centralized operation technology,data disaster recovery or back-up technology, PKI application technology and network accessand control technology to propose a constructive and complete solution to solve the issues ofthe reliability, the data integrity and confidentiality and information safety for the powersupply and electricity business systems.
