University informationization construction has gone through a period of trial and error. Network infrastructure has been put in place basically. Management, research, teaching, service and other applications has been to build a good network platform in full swing. With the extension of the application, Education sector continues to increase investment in the data center IT infrastructure. The deployment of a large number of diverse high-performance servers, switches, routers and other critical infrastructure, then led to the amazing energy consumption growth rate of the data center (IDC) eventually. The high energy consumption of the IDC makes universities hesitates to expand the scale of information technology. Presently more and more colleges and universities have realized the traditional "re-performance, light energy saving," there are many drawbacks. The construction of the IDC, it must take the new path of "low-power, high-yield", and create a green data center.In this paper, the data center status of Guangdong Polytechnic Vocational College to do a comprehensive research. The background of the new campus green data center construction is according to the characteristics of the schools existing data center, to solve the new campus green data center construction, and start from the needs of users, here’s a more detailed discussion of the new campus green data center design and implementation process. Secondly, discussed the idea of the green data center design. Detailed design on the part of the design of the engine room of the green data center engineering and IT equipment, energy-saving technologies, and focus on the choice of the green data center virtualization device management software platform is discussed in detail. Guangdong Polytechnic Vocational College new campus data center has been built and put into use. Proved by running practice to meet the basic needs of daily teaching, office and research to achieve the desired goal.The result of this paper a systematic approach and specific instructions for the green data center design, and innovative exploration in the green data center virtualization architecture-based design method. On the development of the green data center is still in its infancy, with a strong guiding significance and reference value.
