Energy saving is the theme of the time. With the rapid development of IT industry, the dependence on information systems is increasing rapidly, especially in government, economic and social fields. At the same time, the energy consumption of the information industry is getting higher and higher. Global authority research firm has conducted a survey of the IT industry’s carbon emissions. It shows that IT industry’s carbon dioxide emissions have been accounted for2%of the total global emissions, similar to the proportion of the aviation industry. As an important part of building low-carbon society, green computing is an environment-centric computing model, which efforts to eliminate the computing system environment unfriendly factors, and makes computing systems more harmonious. Under the impetus of the information construction of e-government, finance, telecommunications and other fields, the data center’s construction has entered a stage of rapid development. However, accompanied by high energy consumption of data centers, as well as issues such as environmental pollution, has become. From the perspective of overall data center energy consumption, and considering the actual situation of the data center, this paper carries out a virtual green data center energy consumption framework. The paper presents a concept of elastic virtual machine pool, which uses virtualization technology to integrate the data center hardware resources, and manage the layout of the virtual machine. What’s more, by using migration technology and predictable energy control algorithm, our framework can improve the utilization of data center resources, effectively reducing the data center energy consumption. This paper presents a green data center management framework called Green Data Center (GDC), which can effectively improve the resource usage in data center. Actual deployment in real data center shows that GDC can effectively improve the status of high energy consumption in data center. GDC models data center with monitoring and evaluation. Evaluating result shows that GDC can improve the resource utilization to40%-50%, and reduce the energy consumption to about50%.
